Staff Spotlight: Donovan Raymond

Donovan Raymond joined Sustainable Northwest as Finance Manager after more than a decade working in nonprofit financial management across the Pacific Northwest. His career has spanned organizations focused on housing, education, and environmental advocacy, giving him a broad perspective on the operational challenges nonprofits face and the financial discipline required to sustain mission-driven work over the long term.

At Sustainable Northwest, Donovan manages the organization’s budgeting, accounting, grant compliance, and financial reporting. As the organization has grown, quadrupling its budget in recent years, his role has become increasingly critical in ensuring that the financial infrastructure keeps pace with programmatic expansion. He works closely with program directors to develop grant budgets, track expenditures, and ensure that every dollar is spent in alignment with funder requirements and organizational priorities.

Donovan is the first to say that finance is not the most glamorous part of conservation work, but he sees it as essential. “Every acre of forest restored, every rancher supported, every community energy project built, it all runs on funding that has to be managed responsibly,” he says. “If we do not get the financial side right, we cannot do the mission-driven work. It is that simple.”

Outside of the office, Donovan is an avid cyclist who commutes by bike year-round in Portland and spends weekends exploring gravel roads in the Columbia River Gorge. He is also a dedicated home brewer and volunteers with a financial literacy program for high school students. He holds a degree in accounting from Portland State University and is a certified public accountant.
